In its plainest sense, search engine optimization (SEO) is about optimizing your website for search engines. Which means, what? It means setting up all of your website’s content in a way that it will catch the attention of search engines for specific words that (you hope) potential customers will use as search terms in a search engine.
For example, if you sell hummingbird feeders, you would want potential customers to type in “hummingbird feeders” into Google or Bing and then see your website near the top of the search engine results page. The only way that will happen is if that particular web page is optimized for the search keyword “hummingbird feeders.”
Sounds simple enough, right? Well, the rules for SEO keep changing. In Google’s effort to keep relevant sites in the top search engine result placements (SERP), it’s no longer a matter of just littering your metadata and content with the words “hummingbird feeders.” In fact, if all of your webpages use that search phrase in all of its metadata and its overused in the content, Google may flag your site as a content farm and your site will not show up in search engine results at all. I call it getting smacked down by the Google Panda, as Google named this algorithm the “panda algorithm.”
Therefore, your website has to be written in a way that doesn’t sound like it’s trying to attract the attention of search engines for specific keywords. And you know what? Websites that are inundated with the same keywords are BORING to read. They make people click the back button and leave your site forever. And that’s not your goal, right?
Here is where I can come in and help. I am well informed on how search engines constantly change things, so I am constantly on top of how to not only draw in the attention of the Google spiders, but also to appease the Google Pandas. Since I’m a professional writer to boot, I know how to write content without sounding like a robot wrote it.
